a soft white kitchen with warm white countertops
In June of 2025, we made the decision to completely gut our kitchen and rebuild it from the ground up. Our old kitchen was a 90s layout that felt dark, cramped, and not functional for our growing family of four with two little ones under three.
We love cooking and spending time together in the kitchen, so this space needed to work harder for us. It had to feel brighter, more open, and more intentional—but still have personality and warmth.
I had already chosen most of the finishes before demolition even started, but countertops ended up being the hardest decision of the entire remodel. It wasn’t something I truly understood until we were already deep into construction.
At that point, I realized I couldn’t make the decision from online photos or small samples alone. I needed to see full slabs in person, understand the movement, the tone, and how the material would actually feel in our home.
THE BEFORE
The before is a drastic difference from the after. We had a drop ceiling, tight spaces, lack of storage, a weird cut out to the dining room, and a wall separating the two spaces making the kitchen feel dark and closed off. Everything was original to this 90’s home and had never been updated.
Picking a Countertop
Because I needed to see the countertops in person, I located a fabricator. That’s what led me to Accent Countertops in Murray, Utah.
They’re local to us, and their showroom immediately made the process feel less overwhelming. The team was incredibly helpful from the start. I met with Jenny and Kevin, who took time to understand my style, the feeling I wanted in the space, and how our kitchen would actually be used day to day.
Kevin walked me through full slab options instead of just small samples, which completely changed how I saw everything. Especially with our large island being one continuous slab, it was important to understand the full pattern and movement before committing.
The ProcesS
I knew I wanted something soft and subtle—nothing too stark, nothing too busy, but still warm and natural. I’ve always gravitated toward the look of marble, but it wasn’t the right investment for this home or season of life.
Kevin and Jenny recommended their Signature Series line, which includes granite and quartz options sourced in-house by Accent Countertops. I loved that it supported a local business while still giving us access to curated, design-forward materials.
After looking through options, I landed on Calacatta Oasis. It’s an off-white quartz with soft, warm brown veining that feels balanced and timeless without overwhelming the space. It gave me exactly what I was trying to achieve: light, warm, and natural without feeling cold or overly modern.
Templating
Once cabinets were installed, Kevin came out for templating. This part of the process was surprisingly detailed and honestly one of my favorite steps.
The technology they use is impressive, and Kevin took time to walk me through everything so I understood exactly what was happening. We made several design decisions during this visit, including:
How the countertops would wrap over our farmhouse sink
Rounded edge details on parts of the island
The depth of the overhang for bar seating
Design choices based on future renovations we had planned so everything would match
He also suggested adding a matching window ledge, which ended up being one of my favorite small details in the entire kitchen. It elevated the space in a way I didn’t expect.
The level of intention and care during this step made the entire experience feel very thoughtful and personalized.
Production
After templating, our countertops moved into production.
One of the biggest advantages of their Signature Series line being in-house is the turnaround time—typically about 2–3 weeks. At this point, we had been without a fully functional kitchen for months, so this timeline felt like a lifesaver.
I also appreciated the communication throughout this stage. Accent sends updates so you always know where things are in the process, which made everything feel clear and organized.
I was also lucky enough to get to go behind the scenes and see the entire template process. It is truly amazing. Their shop runs 24/7 with a day and night crew, so production never stops and it’s what allows Accent to have such a fast turn around. The machine below is called BACA. This is what cuts all the large slabs and is the first stop in production. Everything then moves onto the man power where the slabs are inspected and hand polished.
Installation
Install day was the most exciting part.
Accent called the week before to schedule a time window, and they were flexible with our availability, which made planning easy.
On installation day, a two-person crew arrived on time and got straight to work. The entire installation only took a few hours, which still amazes me considering the size of our island slab.
Watching the process was incredible. They used specialized equipment to bring in the full slabs, which were extremely heavy and handled with precision.
The old tile window ledge was taken out, and the new one was installed. I’m so happy we went with this decision —it tied everything together and replaced what would have traditionally been tile or wood with something much more seamless and elevated.
Once everything was installed, they cleaned up completely. It honestly looked like they had never been there, except for the fact that our kitchen had completely transformed.
Final Thoughts
This kitchen truly feels like a completely different home.
What started as a dark, cramped 90s layout is now a bright, open space that finally works for how we live day to day. It’s where we cook, gather, and spend most of our time as a family—and it no longer feels like we’re working around the space, but actually living in it comfortably.
The countertops ended up being one of the most defining elements of the entire remodel. They set the tone for everything else and brought a softness and warmth that tied all of our design choices together. I also loved that we were able to go with Accent Countertops’ Signature Series line—it gave us that elevated, design-forward look while still supporting a local company that puts real thought into their materials and process.
From start to finish, the experience felt personal, organized, and intentional. Every step was explained clearly, and I never felt rushed or unsure of a decision, which made such a big project feel manageable.
If you’re local to Utah (or Nevada) and thinking about new countertops, I can’t recommend them enough.

Seeing it all come together in the end made every decision along the way completely worth it.
the after
As I mentioned before, I wanted countertops that were warm, and soft. the Calacatta Oasis Quartz matched exactly what I wanted.
I am truly taken away every time I step into this kitchen. I sometimes doubted my design vision, but once the countertops were added, and we completed all the finishing touches, it all clicked and turned out beautiful.
